WordPress Keywords

Using the right keywords in WordPress is crucial for the success of your website. With targeted keywords you can improve your visibility in the search engines and bring more traffic to your site. In this article, I’ll show you how to use WordPress keywords effectively, which tools can help you with this and what my personal experiences have been.

Why are keywords important?

Keywords are the terms and phrases that users enter into search engines to find specific information. If you use the right keywords in your content, you increase the chances of your website appearing in the search results. This leads to more organic traffic and better visibility.

Insert keywords in WordPress

I personally use the Yoast SEO plugin to optimize my keywords and meta tags. The free version is sufficient for the beginning, especially if you regularly publish new content. If your website grows and you need more functions, it may make sense to upgrade to Yoast SEO Premium.

  • Installation and setup
Install the plugin and follow the setup instructions.
  • Enter keywords
You can define a focus keyword in every post and every page. Yoast SEO then analyzes the content and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Meta descriptions
Fill in the meta description field in the Yoast SEO plugin. Make sure that the description contains the focus keyword and is appealing.

Technical SEO settings with Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO not only helps with keyword optimization, but also with technical SEO settings:

Manage indexing

Define which content should be indexed by search engines. You can exclude unnecessary content, such as tag pages, from indexing.

XML sitemaps

Automatically generate XML sitemaps to make it easier for search engines to crawl your website.

Breadcrumbs

Activate breadcrumbs to improve the user-friendliness and structure of your website.

Personal tips for keyword optimization

From my own experience, I can give the following tips for keyword optimization in WordPress:

  • Regular keyword research
Use tools such as Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest to find relevant keywords and optimize new content for them.
  • Content quality
Write high-quality content that appeals to your target group and offers added value.
  • Internal linking
Link your content to each other to improve user-friendliness and help search engines better understand your site.
